This is both an exciting and challenging position. The first four years with the Men's Shelter I was employed as the outreach worker. Since the time I started, we have made many advances in our efforts to end homelessness.
We have opened and continued to operate a community based housing program called "Homes For All". We have partnered with landlords in our community who provide housing to our residents that offer affordable housing opportunities. We have also opened a group home that houses up to eight people who are former residents of the shelter and other low income workers.
We are continuing to address the needs of the homeless by partnering and networking with other human services groups within Lloydminster and surrounding communities throughout Alberta and Saskatchwan.
We see a very diverse group of people who come to the shelter. We have people from across the country and around the world, everyone is welcome to use our services as needed. Homelessness is a global problem, one that we are following the current trends and trying to address these issues on a local level.
Lloydminster is a small industrial city but has all the same social issues as larger cities in our provinces. There are already many valuable services in place but we are hoping to expand. Some of these expansion projects include a drop in center, a warming center and a shelter for homeless woman.
We have several dedicated staff that help contribute to the success of the shelter. Our board of directors also have a strong vison regarding the areas we need to expand into. With everyone involved we have a strong effective hard working team that comes together to resolve the issue of homelessness.
Our future appears exciting - Heather Grey/Executive Director
